The point-to-point (P2P) and one-by-one (O-O) optical links were investigated in AWG (Arrayed Waveguide Grating) -based networks to clarify the scalability and reconfigurability for customer-owned optical IP network application. To manage the optical links, a routing information control system was designed and implemented to configure IP routings in layer-3 switches remotely. An experimental network was constructed with an AWG for 8 wavelengths defined by the coarse wavelength-division multiplexing standard in 1550nm band. The control system function was examined in the experimental network, and the measured values of overall configuration time for the O-O and P2P routings were about 10 second and 1 minute, respectively, including the re-booting time. As a result, the control system could make the optical links in the AWG-based network by configuring the routings at the administrator’s location.
