Functional and non-functional concerns are identified andrnrefined during requirements analysis. These concerns arernnot always consistent; there may be conflicts betweenrnthem, which must be discovered and resolved throughrntrade-off analysis. Aspect-Oriented RequirementsrnEngineering (AORE) can be used to first describernconcerns independently of each other and then generaterntheir composition. These are used to find conflicts and tornconduct trade-off analysis. This paper uses thernrequirements conflict matrix (RCM) to represent therncomposition. It shows the positive or negative effect ofrnnon-functional concerns over use cases and other nonfunctionalrnconcerns. In order to support the RCMrncreation, Use Case Editor (UCEd), which is a tool thatrnparses use case descriptions to provide simulation forrnconflict analysis, is extended to describe non-functionalrnconcerns and their relationships to other concerns. Thernextended tool uses the descriptions to generaternrepresentations for the composition in the form of RCM.rnThe RCM is used as a reference for the “ConflictingrnForces” method in order to gather questions for trade-offrnanalysis with the stakeholders. A case study wasrnperformed to assess the effectiveness of the process andrnits tool support for trade-off analysis.
