摘要

In Feb., 1998, Zigong, as a study case (below called Zigong RADIUS project), was selected by the IDNDR ( short for International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction) Committee for the RADIUS study whose aiM is to promote the implementation of urban earthquake disaster reduction around the world, especially in the developing countries with serious earthquake conditions. The study of the Zigong RADIUS project could make people know of earthquake danger, raise the public consciousness of earthquake disaster prevention and strengthen the government's functions of disaster mitigation. By virtue of the project, weak links of city earthquake disaster prevention can be found out via a supposed earthquake scenario so as to further improve earthquake fortification and reduce the city loss resulting from an earthquake in future. The project was implemented according to the procedure shown in figure 1-1, and its case study achievements received high praise from IDNDR experts. The project not only made Zigong go a step further in earthquake disaster prevention and mitigation, but also facilitated its extension throughout the country.
