Inclusion phenomena of phosphate and ammonium ions in ice crystals and the behavior of both ions dissolved from the crystals during melting were experimentally investigated. The experiment was performed by forming spherical ice crystals from a solution containing phosphate and ammonium ions, and by melting them, During the formation, large amounts of phosphate and ammounium were observed to be included mear the surface of the ice crystals. When the crystal growth rate was lowered, a higher concentration ratio of phosphate and ammounium ions were observed just near the surface. At melting, the concentration of both ions in the initi8ally-eluated solution was somewhat higher than that in the solution eluated later. When the melting methods were altered, different changes in the concentration of phosphate and ammonium ions in the effluent were recognized.
