For reasonably to well soluble substances secondary nucleation and in particular contact nucleation is considered to be the main source of nuclei formed in crystallizers. In order to develop crystallizer models with a predictive value for different operational conditions or for different scales of operation a mechanistic description of hte secondary nucleation rate is a prerequisite.
