HEART RATE AND BLOOD PRESSURE VARIABILITY UNDER MOON, MARS AND ZERO GRAVITY CONDITIONS DURING PARABOLIC FLIGHTS

Gravity changes during partial-G parabolic flights (0g -rn0.16g - 0.38g) lead to changes in modulation of the autonomicrnnervous system (ANS), studied via the heart raternvariability (HRV) and blood pressure variability (BPV).rnHRV and BPV were assessed via classical time andrnfrequency domain measures. Mean systolic and diastolicrnblood pressure show both increasing trends towardsrnhigher gravity levels. The parasympathetic and sympatheticrnmodulation show both an increasing trend with decreasingrngravity, although the modulation is sympatheticrnpredominant during reduced gravity. For the mean heartrnrate, a non-monotonic relation was found, which can bernexplained by the increased influence of stress on the heartrnrate. This study shows that there is a relation betweenrnchanges in gravity and modulations in the ANS. Withrnthis in mind, countermeasures can be developed to reducernpostflight orthostatic intolerance.
