摘要

The arts offer alternative insights into reality — which isrnexplored by science in general, and broadened by thernactivities conducted by the European Space Agency (ESA)rnand other space agencies. Similar to the way the membersrnof ESA are ambassadors for spaceflight and science, artistsrnand cultural professionals are ambassadors for humanrnexpression, experimentation, and exploration. In Junern2011, the ESA Topical Team Arts & Sciences (ETTAS),rnheld a three-day workshop at the European AstronautrnCentre in Cologne, Germany. During this workshop, topicsrnand ideas were discussed to develop cooperations betweenrnthe arts, sciences and ESA to foster and expand the humanrnand cultural aspects of space exploration, and at the samerntime offer a means of communication, which would aim tornreach audiences beyond the scope of traditional spacerelatedrnchannels. The preliminary findings and consensusrnof the team was that establishing and sustaining arntransdisciplinary professional community consisting ofrnESA representatives, scientists and artists would fuelrnknowledge transfer, and mutual inspiration.
