Steel products are eco-materials, since all types of products can be recycled through melting and refining processes and scraps can also be recycled. Nowadays, for the benefit of both economy and environment, the development and application of advanced high strength steels are going very fast. In this article the lightweighting project of automobiles and its major achievement are introduced, Emphasis is put on the availability, application and characteristics of advanced high strength steel sheets (AHSS). The current status of the equipment for AHSS production are briefed. The development plan of AHSS in Baosteel is also covered.
