It has recently been reported that suspected carcinogens have been found in the drinking water of 79 U.S. cities. Suspected carcinogens found in drinking water may come from several sources. These are: industrial and municipal effluents, naturally occurring organic compounds, non-point sources, and as a direct result of the chlorination of drinking water. Ozone is a technological and in many cases an economical solution to this problem. This has been shown to be the case in the "80 Cities Study" since Strasburg, Pennsylvania, and Whiting, Indiana, have the lowest level of the six chlorinated hydrocarbons being investigated. These are the only cities currently employing ozonation as full or partial treatment of their drinking water in the United States.
