This paper considers the application of a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) to a hydraulic steering system with load disturbance. An important consideration in such a system is the oscillations that occur in the system response owing to wind, wave, et al. The cosimulation technology of AMESim and Simulink is applied to establish the system. This model is used in the development of a fuzzy logic control strategy. A comparative study involving the application of FLC versus the P1D controller is presented. A significant result is that AMESim/Simulink can be an effective tools for steering system modeling and the FLC is suitable for the non-linear control application.
