The first control action in power system restorationrnconcerns the generation restart. In the initial phase ofrnrestoration, operators are often concerned with load pickuprnproblems. One of the important problems during loadrnpickup is keeping frequency response in allowable range.rnThe aim of this paper is to determine the best sequence ofrnload pickup by hydro and steam units during power systemrnrestoration based on frequency response of prime movers.rnHydro power plants and combustion turbine units have therncapability of black start operation and can be used for earlyrnstages of power system restoration. This paper considersrnhydro power plants for evaluating the stability andrnfrequency response during load pickup in the early stages ofrnrestoration. Load pickup scheme has been developed basedrnon using a pair of interconnected units.
