In this paper the results obtained in the accompanying paper 'Experimental determination of strain field in CT-specimens', are further examined, and an inverse analysis is performed. The specimens are made from wood and the inverse analysis is performed in order to determine the stress-crack opening relationship for the wood, i.e. the softening behaviour. Furthermore the elastic parameters are evaluated from the experimental data. The inverse analysis utilizes a non-linear finite element model established in the program ABAQUS~R , to model discrete crack growth, and an optimization facility in MATLAB~R. A parameter variation is performed in ABAQUS~R, and the results exported to MATLAB~R, were the optimization is conducted applying multidimensional data interpolation. An exponential softening behavior is examined, and the associated parameters describing the actual softening are found.
