Color Displays will become prevalent in future cockpits. This study focuses on subjective reporting of color perception during relaxed, gradual onset, Gz acceleration. Methods: 12 male and 5 female subjects participated in this study. Four separate color displays were used in this experiment. The first was a pinwheel ainbow color display similar to one used in altitude chamber training. teh second display was a series of vertical color bars. the colors in these two displays were dark blue, light blue, white, lime green, purple, and yellow. The third display included two or three of these colors presented as colored circles on a light bar against differnet background colors. The fourth display was a digitized FAA sectional chart. The Dynamic Environment Simulator (DES) centrifuge was used to generate a 0.1 Gz per second onset rate. The subjects remained relaxed until they had central light loss, at which time they strained. Results: In all four of the display conditions, subjects reported sequential changes in color perception. The first hue shift was a disappearance of light blue into white. The secodn shift was green to yellow. Finally, a blending of all four of these colors into white was reported.
