摘要

In the sector of glass-container production, innovation is heavily dominated by cost-issues and return on investment. This leads otien to more evolutional and incremental changes in manufacturing than to revolutionary ones. In this paper the interaction of demands especially focused on glass strengthening and hence glass-container light-weighting are discussed. It is explained how these interactions should be overcome and where considerable achievements have been made possible and still can be made. Emphasis is put on three ways of increasing the useable glass strength, namely preserving the initial strength, restoring the initial strength and "adding" an additional strength to the glass-container.
