A new process oxygen analyser is described which incorporates microprocessor based electronics. This enables additional facilities such as comprehensive alarms and diagnostics, auto-calibration and data communications to be incorporated. The transducer unit of the analyser can be used in Division I/Zone 1 hazardous areas.rnINTRODUCTIONrnServomex (R) have manufactured oxygen analysers, using their magneto-dynamic cell, for nearly 30 years. It was decided that a new analyser should be introduced for use in the process industries which would represent the state of the art and in particular have:rn1. Minimum sample DV lag.rn2. Be suitable for use in Division 1/ Zone 1 areas.rn3. Excellent stability and resolution.rn4. Comprehensive alarm facilities.rn5. Minimise cost of ownership.rn6. Be easy to service.rn7. Capability to interface to process control computers.rnThese requirements were met by making the analyser in two units (Figure 1), a transducer unit which could be placed on the process stream to minimise DV lag, and a control unit positioned up to 300m away. The two are connected by a data link. By incorporating digital electronics all analogue controls and adjustments have been discarded, and if the auto-calibration option is used, a skilled technician is not required to operate the analyser.
