In this paper, psychrotrophs and psychrotrophilic yeast that had higher biological activity and metabolize ability of organic pollutants were isolated from activated sludge in winter by microbiology technique. Observation of morphologic and cultivate characteristic, analysis of physiological biochemical characteristics and generation time were tested. On the base of it, the ability of organic pollutants of single psychrotrophs and mixed psychrotrophilic strains were tested in low temperature sewage. The results showed that 6 kinds of psychrotrophs belong to Flavobacterium, Pseudomonas, Bacillus and 4 kinds of psychrotrophilic yeast belong to Candida, Rhodotorula, Saccharomyces etc. were screened and isolated. Psychrotrophs had shorter generation time as 9.04-13.11h at 5℃.The highest COD removal rate of single psychrotrophs and psychrotrophilic yeast was 64% and 83%. The mixed psychrotrophs strains that had been domesticated presented high capacity of degrading organic pollutants in low temperature domestic sewage. The COD removal rate of mixed psychrotrophilic strains could reach to 83%-87%.
