This paper describes the evolution of the underground SVSX portion of the Santa ClararnCounty Valley Transportation Authority’s (VTA) Silicon Valley Rapid Transit (SVRT)rnProgram in Santa Clara County, California, which includes approximately 5 miles ofrntwin bored tunnels and underground transit stations associated with extension of thernBART heavy rail transit system. On hold since 2009, the VTA is initiating efforts to preparernsupplemental federal and state environmental clearance documents for SVSX,rnand the paper will provide an update on the project status including alignment and stationrnlocations being evaluated, with a potential schedule for design and construction.
