Investigation of performance of WC-10Co4Cr and Cr3C2-25(NiCr) coating by HVOF spraying

High velocity oxy-fuel flame (HVOF) spraying has been usually used for producing high quality cermet coatings.WC-CoCr and Cr3C2-NiCr based coatings are widely used in industry for applications to required abrasion,sliding and erosion resistance.In this paper,WC-10Co4Cr and Cr3C2-25(NiCr) coatings prepared by HVOF spraying were studied. The microstructure,phase composition,porosity and micro hardness of these coatings were investigated by XRD,SEM and micro hardness tests.Bond strength and sliding wear tests were carried out to measure the mechanical properties of coatings. The results indicate that these coatings were compacted with low porosity (no more than 2%) and well combined with the substrate.Sliding wear tests show that the WC-10Co4Cr and Cr3C2-25(NiCr) coatings have good wear resistance,which attributes to the complex microstructures where the ceramic hard-phase (WC and cr3C2 phase) constituents are embedded in a metallic matrix (CoCr and NiCr).WC-10Co4Cr coating has higher wear resistance in comparison with Cr3C2-25(NiCr) coating.
