This paper firstly tests the existence of increasing returns to scale using Caldor-Verdoorn Law, based on the data of Chinese manufacturing sector during 1980-2006. Secondly, it gives the decomposition of labor structure changes’ contribution rate to labor productivity growth. The results show that: Increasing returns to scale of productivity existed in Chinese manufacturing industry at least during 1995-2006; Shift-share decomposition indicates that inter-regional labors mobility shares a lower contribution rate to labor productivity growth, and the internal promotion of labor productivity growth in all areas is the most important source of labor productivity growth in Chinese manufacturing industry.
