摘要

The structural safety of bolted connections for buildings located on zones with high seismic hazard involves the consideration of uncertainties mainly related with the loading that demands the connection to a combination of stresses that may be critical for the building performance. Usually the bolts are subjected to strong shear forces trending to a fracture failure. Structural reliability provides a proper framework to appraise the connection safety and to associate it with the costs incurred at present and future times. These relationships allow for the determination of cost-effective measures and risk-based design recommendations looking for the optimization of long term performance.
