In order to find the optimum mixture for hybrid steel fibre reinforced self compacting concrete, a test series with different fibre-to-fibre ratios were carried out. Different fibre amounts which were used for the above mentioned fibre-to-fibre ratios can be expressed using the fibre factor. This parameter varied between 1.5 and 3.0 in all the test series. Several rheological tests were performed to assess whether the mixes were self-compacting or not. The research presented suggests that a new fresh concrete properties test has to be developed for HFC. Also, the influence of the state of moisture of the rheological testing equipment has been investigated. After these rheological tests, investigations of the mechanical properties, i.e. 'standard' bending and compressive strength, were carried out. In order to assess the effect of specimen geometry, boundary conditions and fibre distribution, a test series based on hybrid fibre concrete with a fibre factor of 2.15 and a fibre-to-fibre ratio of 8:1:1 was carried out using the pendulum-bar four-point bending test. After the tests crack patterns were recovered. It seems to be possible to compare bending strength based on results from specimens with different geometries. For that, the volume-to-moulded-surface ratio seems to be a suitable parameter.
