This paper addresses the importance of local impact assessments to arrive at justifiable wake wash criteria. Wake wash induced erosion and significant dangers to the public are issues brought up by the increase in fast ferry operations. Noise, pollution and wake wash are likely to accompany new fast ferry trades and this new transport concept demands a certain level of adaptation to be efficient, environmentally friendly and safe. Each area is unique in terms of bathymetry and sediment composition and also regarding habits and attitudes of marine environment users. Wave propagation and beach effects differe from location to location.
