Composite materials offer unique challenges when it comes to storing data about theirrnconstituent materials, the processing steps (needed to create a laminate or component from anyrnintermediates) and the materials properties measured from coupons cut from a final laminate orrncomponent – before and / or after conditioning.rnNo other family of materials requires such a complex web of interconnected pieces ofrninformation. This paper presents the results of a 5 year program within the Materials DatarnManagement Consortium to understand the data required to represent the process history ofrncomposite materials and the consequent material properties. The major aerospace organizationsrninvolved with this effort (e.g. Boeing, GE Aviation, Honeywell, NASA, Northrop Grumman,rnRaytheon, RR etc) focused on designing a database schema to store sufficient information torncapture these trends – this schema was then tested with the data from the NCAMP test program.rnThe results of this analysis will be shown along with an extension to accommodate hybridrnmaterials and sandwich panels. Further efforts to understand the needs of Ceramic matrixrncomposite and metal matrix composites are also considered.
