Population Fluctuation of Antagonistic Bacteria from Rice Seed Surface during Rice Growing Stages

Strains of bacterial antagonists to rice blast caused by Pyricularia grisea were isolated from the rice seed surface sampling from postharvest to storage time. The antagonistic bacteria after screening for rice blast control were identified by cell fatty acid analysis and according to the morphological, physiological and biochemical characteristics. AH of similarities were over 0.607.They were four strains belonged to Bacillus subtilis, there B. megaterium, the other three B. pumilus, one B. cereus and the other one B. licheniformis. There were a quite different population fluctuation of bacterial biomass on the surface of rice seeds during storage time, before and after seed germination, and also on the seedlings between paddy-breeding and upland-breeding. It was found that at the beginning of storage time the density of bacterial biomass on seeds at 10~8cfu/ml.g, the population of antagonists were higher at 80-100% of bacterial biomass. With the time after 3-4 months storage the number of biomass of bacteria was dramatically increased up to 10~(10) cfu/ml.g seeds while the antagonistical bacteria were decreased. To the end of storage time, 7month in total, the biomass of bacteria were still kept at 10~9 cfu/ml.g seeds, but the antagonistic bacteria were very few. For the fungi it was showed that at the middle of rice seeds storage time the fungi were started increasing, and to the end of storage time the fungus was actively but the antagonists were very few. The population of microbial biomass and the antagonistic bacteria from upland-breeding rice seedlings quite clearly higher than paddy-breeding seedlings. The population density of microorganisms on a germinated seeds was significantly higher than that before germinated, and as the same manner for antagonistic bacteria.
