There are relatively few studies on the nature of the organic compounds which are subject to mineralization. This made necessary during the 1997 -1998 period at the Forage Institute - Pleven to carry out a study for the determination of true humus substances, detritus and changes of humus group compositions at different times of ploughing up of surface soil layer of typical chernozem. The areas ploughed up had been used as a fields for 20, 70 and over 100 years. A virgin land was used for comparison. Winter cereals with dense surface and spring tilling crops had been mainly grown. The difference in the amount of organic substance for the virgin land and analogues ploughed up is due to detritus mineraliztion. When determining the detritus 20% to 1% of low-molecular compounds of the type of fulvoacids are extracted (r = 0.96). The content of true humus substances for the virgin land (0.79%), as well as for the analogues ploughed up (0.77%) is a cnstant value. The substances extracted from the soil by alkaline solvents and weak organic acids are low-molecular intermediate compounds of equal or similar nature not having entered yet into the process of humus formation (r = 0.93) There are relatively few studies on the nature of the organic compounds which are subject to mineraliztion. It is known that during the first 20-30 years after ploughing up of the virgin land the organic matter content sharply decreases (Grinchenko, 1970; Chesniak, 1983; Orlov et al., 1996). The objective is to establish the content of true humus substances and detritus and the changes of humus group composition under different times of ploughing up of surface soil layer.
