A field experiment was carried out at Al-Azhar Agricultural Research Center, Assiut Governorate in summer season of year 2002. The study was conceived to investigate soybean growth responses and soil properties to some soil amendments and phosphorus fertilization. Results indicated that the studied amendments realized an improvement in bulk density, hydraulic conductivity (H.C.) and infiltration rate (I.R.). The soil bulk density decreased from an average value of 1.46 g/cm~3 in the control treatment to 1.26,1.25 and to 1.2 g/cm~3 in gypsum (G), farmyard manure (FYM) and G+FYM treatment, respectively. G+FYM treatment with phosphorus fertilizer of 45 kg/fd showed the lowest value of bulk density (1.15 g/cm~3). The average H.C. value was 0.060 ml day in the control plot and could be classified as slow while in G+FYM treatment, The average H.C. value was 0.1825 ml day and could be classified as moderately slow. The average value of I.R. was 5.15 cm /h in the control treatment and it increased to an average value of 9.45 cm/h in the G+FYM treatment. Application of the studied amendments realized a significant effect on the total soil nitrogen. Results showed a significant decrease in the value of total soil nitrogen and available K by increasing P level. Results also, indicate that the effect of P level on the availability of P and K in soil was significant. Data revealed that exchangeable Ca, Mg and K increased by the application of soil amendments but exchangeable Na was significantly decreased. It decreased from an average value of 17.07 in the control treatment to an average of 6.46, 9.54 and 6.95 in G, FYM and G+FYM treatment, respectively. Application of (G+FYM) gave the greatest amount of grain and straw yield.
