A Multi-Agent System to Simulate Hormone and Paracrine Messages in the Nervous System

Most current neural networks are able to simulate synapses but they do not take into account, the dynamic, the plasticity and the diversity of the inter-neuron communication. We know that the nervous system is always evolving and that this evolution is necessary to achieve many cognitive but also sensitive and motor tasks... We provide a supervised multi-agent architecture, which is able to handle the most important means of inter-neuron communication: electrical synapse, chemical synapse, paracrine and hormone messages. A supervisor agent represents the genetically pre-programmed anatomical and connection constraints, the diffusion of hormones and humoral factors which are population oriented messages. The supervisor agent synchronizes the system state with the help of a refreshment monitor, which sets a logic time. Neuron agents are connected with junction objects. These different junction object types are specialised to handle the different communication modes. The modification of the information flow should make the neuron agents to switch from a communication mode to another one, setting new neuron agent gathering, so long as they respect the anatomical constraints provided by the supervisor agent.
