The paper deals with the assessment of the strength and the ductility of axially compressed members composed of outstand plated elements. In the first part of the paper the behaviour of uniformly compressed outstand elements for different width-to-thickness ratios, steel qualities and imperfections is investigated. In the second part the global member behaviour is studied, where the overall slendness is used as an additional parameter. The investigations refer to the structural behaviour both prior and after the attainment of the ultimate load enabling thus an assessment of the strength and ductility characteristics of the members under considerations.
