摘要

Manufacture of protective clothing encompasses a wide variety of techniques, such that one blend of fibres cannot cover all aspects and provide protection against all hazards. It may be necessary that the same clothing needs to provide more than one protective function. However, only limited success has been achieved because of complex requirements of such fabrics. In this paper an attempt is made to blend finishes to cotton and polyester/cotton so as to be capable of using the same fabric for protection from heat, water and fire. A flame retardant finish on polyester is difficult, but the same on polyester/cotton blends may be more successful. For instance, in chemical hazardous environments, it's critical for clothing to be both flame retardant as well as water repellent. A concentrated effort is made to achieve a fabric that is flame retardant, water repellent as well as provide protection from heat and radiation or UV light on cotton and polyester/cotton blends along with good crease recovery and soft handle.
