In this paper, a new type of heat protective glove is introduced in which Phase Change Material is used to enhance thermal performance. Phase Change Material possesses the ability to absorb large quantities of latent heat within a certain temperature range. This feature, provided by the PCM in heat-protective gloves, creates an acute thermal barrier. This protection, combined with the thermal barrier of the gloves'material, provides improved thermal protection against different types of heat incidences. The use of PCM in heat-protective gloves not only enhances thermal performance, but also reduces overall weight and thickness of the gloves relative to those with other insulation materials, thereby improving the hand dexterity of their user. The decrease in the glove's thickness results in reduced thermal resistance, which in turn provides improved heat exchange between the user's skin and the outside environment. This translates into improved wearing comfort in circumstances requiring no protection. The paper focuses on the selection of the appropriate Phase Change Material and suitable textile structures to which the Phase Change Material will be applied, as well as the new glove design. The gloves' thermal performance has been examinated in various tests, the results of which are discussed.
