Design of residential structures in regions of high winds or seismic activity requires that shear walls be adequately detailed and constructed. When these procedures have not not been properly executed, litigation is likely to follow. In this investigation, the behavior of shear walls designed in conformance with a standard building code is compared with the behavior of shear walls that are not in conformance with the same code.
