摘要

Aqua MODIS has successfully operated on-orbit for more than 6 years since its launch in May 2002. MODIS observations are made in 36 spectral bands, which consist of 20 reflective solar bands (RSB) with wavelengths from 0.41 to 2.2μm and 16 thermal emissive bands (TEB) from 3.7 to 14.4um. As many as 40 science data products have been continuously generated from MODIS observations (Terra and Aqua) and used extensively for studies of global climate and environmental changes. As Aqua MODIS continues to operate beyond its design lifetime of 6 years, we provide in this paper the sensor on-orbit operation and calibration activities and a performance summary. This paper serves as an update for the Aqua MODIS instrument status and presents lessons learned based on its 6-year on-orbit measurements and long-term trending of key sensor performance parameters, including instrument temperature, on-board blackbody and focal plane assembly (FPA) temperatures, and spectral band responses. Discussions will also cover the on-board solar diffuser (SD) operation and degradation analysis. Results show that Aqua MODIS overall on-orbit performance is more stable and better than its predecessor, Terra MODIS, launched in December 1999.
