摘要

The high quality observations from the Along Trackrnscanning Radiometer ((A)ATSR) series have led to arnnumber of operational applications for the data at thernMet Office. We present a summary of the recent uses ofrn(A)ATSR sea surface temperature and radiancernmeasurements. We include summaries on the use ofrn(A)ATSR in climate research, the use of these data inrnclimate models and reanalyses, namely the HadleyrnCentre Sea Ice and Sea Surface Temperature data setrn(HadISST2) and the use of the AATSR data inrnoperational ocean forecasting. Finally radiance biasrnmonitoring using AATSR radiances is a new applicationrnin support of the Global Space-based Inter-Calibrationrnsystem (GSICS) programme. These applicationsrndemonstrate the value of (A)ATSR in a national weatherrn& climate service context and the importance of arnclimate quality data record, which the Sea and LandrnSurface Temperature Radiometer (SLSTR) shouldrncontinue.
