In mid-2011, a 3rd reprocessing of MERIS data wasrnreleased. Regarding level-1 products, changes fromrnprevious version concerned improvement on thernradiometric stability (including NIR bands), on pixel tornpixel homogeneity, and on camera interfacerncontinuities. Several in-flight calibration techniquesrnusing natural targets were applied on MERIS data inrnorder to validate the 3rd reprocessing data. Collection ofrndata acquired over desert sites and oceanic sites (in thisrnpaper), but also Antarctica and cloudy sites wererncollected and extracted using the METRIC tool, thenrninserted and processed through the SADE/MUSCLErnoperational environment. These combined calibrationsrnover various targets provide a validation of the 3rdrnreprocessing radiometric calibration : the temporalrntrending correction, the absolute and interbandrncalibrations, the inter-camera consistency, but also therncross-calibration with other sensors. Results will bernsummarized and discussed. In another way, assumingrnthat MERIS is a well calibrated instrument, thesernmatchups and the comparison of results are also anrnopportunity to highlight the accuracy of every method.rnPerspective for future sensor will be discussed, mainlyrnfor the coming Sentinel-3/OLCI sensor for which norntemporal overlap will occur with MERIS.
