Conductive boron-doped diamond thin films have become very attractive for electrochemical applications such as wastewater treatment and electroanalysis. We have demonstrated several electroanalytical applications of diamond for biologically and environmentally important chemical species. Some of the recent examples include the detection of chlorophenols and carbamate pesticides. In case of chlorophenols, anodically oxidized diamond exhibited excellent sensitivity and stability in contrast to the behavor of glassy carbon. Additionally, we have shown the possibility of reactivation of the diamond electrode by applying high anodic potential, without damaging the electrode surface. We have also developed miniatured diamond microelectrodes, which offer potential analytical applications in electroanalysis. The electrochemical behavior of homoepitaxial diamond films was examined in order to understand the role of crystal surface and grain boundaries. In case of electroinactive species such as carbohydrates, diamond surface was activated by modifying it with electrocatalytic copper metal nanoclusters. Similarly, nanoporous diamond electrodes modified with Pt nonoclusters in the pores have exhibited selective activity for smaller alcohol molecules.
