Modeling Complex Neurodynamics with Spatio-temporal Chaos and its Application to Analog Computation

In this keynote speech, I review the following studies on chaotic neural networks: (1) electrophysiological experiments on chaotic responses generated by excitable neurodynamics in squid giant axons and nonlinear time series analysis of the response data, (2) modeling of the chaotic neurodynamics by a bi-modal map, or a chaotic neuron model and its extension to a network model of chaotic neural networks, (3) numerical and theoretical analysis on complex spatio-temporal dynamics with parallel distributed processing abilities in chaotic neural networks, and (4) electronic implementation of chaotic neural networks with analog IC chips for chaos computation.
