Combustion noise of diesel engine plays a most important role in the whole noise of diesel engine; therefore, research on combustion noise receives more and more recognition. It can achieve a higher injection pressure as well as it is easier to be controlled for a diesel engine with high pressure common rail electronic-control DI system, which can implement accurately control to the pilot injection. Pilot injection is an effective measure to control the combustion noise for a diesel engine with high- pressure common rail electronic-control direct injection system. Based on the experiment, in this paper, the influence of the pilot injection variables under different working conditions on the combustion noise was analyzed in details. The pilot injection variables include the pilot injection timing, pilot injection quantity and main injection timing. By analyzing of the tested data, the variables of pilot injection were optimized. As the combustion noise is optimized, the influence on the emissions and the specific fuel consumption are also considered. The result shows that it can improve the combustion noise obviously with pilot injection, and the improvement effect is much more obvious after optimizing the pilot injection strategy.
