The UH (unified hardening) model is extended to the constitutive model for overconsolidated clays with initially stress-induced anisotropy. By introducing the potential failure stress ratio Mf, the characteristic stress ratio M, and state stress ratio ηk to the unified hardening parameter, the proposed model can model many characteristics of overconsolidated clays well, including initially stress-induced anisotropy, stress dilatancy,strain hardening and softening, and path dependency. Based on the SMP criterion and the corresponding transformed stress tensors,the model can be applied conveniently to three-dimensional stress states. According to the proposed model, the unified formulation of the undrained shear strengths is presented and used to the triaxial compression, the triaxial extension and plane strain conditions, respectively. The comparisons between the calculated results and test data confirm the validity of the model and the formula of undrained shear strength for overconsolidated clays with initially stress-induced anisotropy.
