High temperature damage and resulting failures occur in a wide variety of situations, including boilers, superheaters and related components, petrochemical plants, gas turbines and furnaces. In many such cases the extent of damage and cause of failure, if this has occurred, needs to be investigated. Various mechanisms of high temperature damage and failure are discussed and their metallographic and fractographic features are described and illustrated.
