A micrometer is a necessary tool in the mechanical measurement field. And in some automatic measurement systems, we also hope to make auto-measurements with a micrometer, which is of low cost. We have, therefore, designed a measuring system with micrometer, sensors and microcomputer. With this system, we have not only solved the problem of realizing a low cost auto-measuring system, but also reduced the manual measuring error. We have demonstrated in this paper an effective method to improve a micrometer's measuring precision based on the error analysis and the actual data that we got with this measuring system.
