摘要

This paper presents methodologies for safer, and higher productive drilling of difficult-to-machine materials by using the Intelligent Machine Tool. In particular, drilling processes of a Titanium alloy, Ti-6Al-4V, which is known as a typical difficult-to-machine material, is considered. By performing the pecking only when the chip jamming is detected, the maximum cutting torque can be regulated under the safe level. As a result, the tool life is extended by approximately 50% compared to conventional cases.
