This paper deals with cutting performance of tipped-saw produced by new tensioning methods. The proposed methods can prepare an adequate residual stress in the disk, so the natural frequency and the rigidity in consequence can set up freely. When sawing carbon steel S45C at a speed of 99 m/min, some cutting edges of all tipped-saws broke down from the beginning of sawing due to a large run-out and elastic displacement of the disk. In contrast, at a speed of 1916 m/min, the cutting edge did not fracture but the wear rate was rapid. The surface roughness was smaller, comparing with the conventional method.
