摘要

Experiments have been conducted to determine whether in situ bioremediation could be applied at Koenigstein, Germany. There, an aquifer located on top of a former uranium mine might be contaminated after flooding of the mine. The flooding water will contain uranium and other contaminants. On site chemical conditions were closely simulated in the laboratory. Water was amended with lactate. The most likely chemical reactions leading to microbially mediated mineralization of uranium were identified and then experimentally verified. The results showed that indigenous microbes reduced U(VI) to U(IV) that precipitated as uraninite UO_2. A large excess of mackinawite [Fe_(l-x)S] was also precipitated by microbially mediated reactions and was shown to provide long-term protection against oxidative dissolution of uraninite.
