An experimental investigation is conducted to study drag reduction in a 2-phase vertically upward hydraulic transport of galss bead particles of 30-40 mesh in size in a dilute polymer solution. The particles are nearly spherical. The experiment was conducted with a clear PVD pipe 2.54 cm in diameter. pressure droops and average flow rates were measured in the reynolds number range of 10 sup 4 < Re< 10 sup 5. The results of water and 2-phase particle-water mixture flows, both with and without polymer additives, show that dilute polymer solutions can signficantly reduce pressure gradients of not only water but also water-particle mixture flows in the higher reynolds-number range; drag reduction is as much as 80
