摘要

Near infrared spectroscopy is able to accurately measure muscle/tissue pH and PO2 as indicators of altered microcirculation and resultant metabolic changes. We suggest that in the future, NIRS will allow physicians to identify patients at risk for septic shock based on alterations in the patient's microcirculation before the onset of organ failure. Clinicians will then be able to apply evidence-based principles of early goal directed therapy with the potential to prevent the progression from early organ dysfunction secondary to inadequate tissue perfusion, to manifest multi system organ failure.
