Belt washing systems provide a proven method to remove residual material from conveyor belts in applications where environmental issues, regulatory concerns, or other problems mandate high-efficiency belt cleaning. These systems can incorporate a variety of water sprays, belt cleaner assemblies, drying equipment, and discharge arrangements to provide high levels of performance in the face of challenging materials and difficult environments. This chapter reviews the issues and criteria for the design of effective belt washing stations, and discusses the systems developed for applications on long overland conveyors and for bulk transportation terminals.
