摘要

As equipment has become more complex and demands for determining actual and potential sources of failure have become more acute, the need for portable, field effective diagnostic instrumentation has become evident. In addition to standard technologies such as vibration and infrared, airborne/structure borne ultrasound is being recognized as an effective tool for predictive diagnostics and condition analysis. Instruments based on this technology are used for a multitude of inspection activities ranging from mechanical condition to detection and analysis of electrical emissions and leakage. This paper will introduce the technology, its instrumentation and applications. The portability of the instrumentation and how it is used to identify stages of bearing failure, locate leaks and determine types of electrical faults such as partial discharge, arcing, tracking and corona in operating equipment will be described.
