Prognostics provides the information that can realize increased uptime, reduced maintenance costs, and improve the system lifetime. The prognostics information data set is one of the necessary contributors to optimize and achieve a fully robust decision support system. The goal is to integrate an information architecture that supplies data into a life cycle management system that supports program management, parts and services supply chain, an adaptive and responsive maintenance and repair organization, and the objective system platform. The Marine Corps' Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV) accounts for these requirements in the overall organizational framework for the planning, implementation, and execution of this integrated design approach. The information that feeds the decision support system originates from a number of sources. The resultant data from these sources are captured, stored, calculated, aggregated, and reported to the various organizational levels on a timely basis. This paper will describe the overall EFV decision support system, and how prognostics plays an integral part in contributing to reducing system downtime, assist in planning for periodic maintenance scheduling, and promoting system availability and readiness.
