In the development of the design and through the testing program of the Polar Endeavour class tankers it was believed that the vessels would possess superior capabilities in disabled conditions. What wasn't fully understood was the extent of these capabilities. This paper will endeavor to describe the tankers, and to highlight the ability of the tankers to maneuver under single failure (rudder or propeller), and multiple failure (rudder and propeller) conditions. Data will also be provided as to the likelihood of a failure instance.
