摘要

A method has been presented in this paper for the determination of the stresses that occur under the surface of coated contacts. The results of the method make clear that apart from the normal loading and the friction coefficient, the main influence factors that affect the subsurface stresses are the ratio of the coating, the substrate and the coating thickness.rnThe application of this method allows for the optimization of coated systems, especially when it is coupled with the consideration of the coating in a contact calculation, where the effect of the coating on the contact load and area can be estimated. This can lead to coated systems that are tailor made to meet specific application requirements, while at the same time the lifetime requirements are also ensured.
